The game

A two-minute game you can play for years

Wallz is a free, online take on the classic wall-and-pawn racing game. You and one opponent each control a single pawn on a 9×9 board. On your turn you either step one square toward the far side or spend one of your ten walls to make your opponent's route longer. First pawn to the opposite edge wins. It is quick to learn and surprisingly deep: the whole game lives in deciding, turn after turn, whether to run or to wall.

Move or wallEach turn, take one step toward your goal or place a two-square wall in your opponent's way. Never both.

Slow them downWalls can never trap anyone completely, because there is always a path. The skill is forcing detours that cost them more time than they cost you.

Reach the far sideThe first pawn to touch the opposite edge wins. Outrun your opponent, or out-wall them into the long way around.
